Chinguetti would have been founded in XIIIth century. For the Mauritanians who met there before leaving by caravan to the pilgrimage to Mecca, it is the seventh holy place of Islam. Its streets are invaded by the sand of the great sea of dunes, at the doors of the city. It shelters several libraries containing old manuscripts. |
