The citadel of Jaisalmer was built into 1156 at the top of the hill of Trikuta. Its enclosing wall consists of 99 bastions (added during the 17th century) and surrounds the old city. The geographical situation of Jaisalmer enables to the town to control the main trade roads towards Arabia and North Africa.
