The whole city of Jaipur was painted in pink by the Maharadja Ram Singh II in 1876 on the occasion of the visit of Prince of Wales, the future Edouard VII. It is surrounded by crenelated ramparts pierced with doors whose principal ones are Chandpol, Sanganeri and Ajmeri. The avenues divide the old city into perfect rectangles. Several big bazaars brighten up the city.
