The castle and gardens of Chenonceau. Rare fact in the history of the castles of France, Chenonceau was primarily work of women. Successively, Catherine Briçonnet (from 1513 to 1526), Diane de Poitiers (from 1547 to 1559), Catherine de Medicis (from 1559 to 1589), Louise de Lorraine (from 1589 to 1600), Mrs Dupin (from 1733 to 1799) and Mrs Pelouze (from 1863 to 1875) were the authors of the construction, conservation or restoration of this masterpiece of Renaissance art.
