Hypostyle room


The Hypostyle room of Karnak, with its forest of 134 columns. The 12 columns of the central nave could carry 50 people on the platform of their capitals they support, at 23 meters in height, the enormous architraves of a partly disappeared ceiling. The execution of the hypostyle room would have begun towards 1375 before Christ. Horemheb would have undertaken, one half-century later, to make a colossal station of it on the way of the procession which carried out the holy boat towards the temples of left bank of the river.
