Cerro Rico


Cerro Rico (4824 m), the silver mountain. In the co-operative mines of Cerro Rico, work is entirely carried out using archaic tools and with underground temperatures going from 0°C to 45°C according to the level of the mine in the mountain. Exposed to all kinds of chemicals and harmful gases, the miners often die of silicosis 10 to 15 years after their first days in the mine.
