Beguinage


The Beguinage was founded in 1245 by Margueritte of Constantinople, countess of Flanders. Peaceful enclosure, it groups around a vast rectangle green, sown with jonquils in spring and planted with big trees, the church out of brick from the 17th century, and the white houses of the beguines. The benedictines which replaced those kept the costume of the beguines.
